PeaceHealth continues to disregard our suggestions for improving working conditions and sustainability. We’re tired of losing great colleagues to other healthcare systems. We’re tired of not being able to see our patients as soon and as frequently as necessary for optimal care. We don’t want to go on strike, but we feel this is necessary to force Vancouver executives to notice Whatcom and Skagit patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The UAPD has two groups who are striking, the Advanced Practice Clinicians and the Hospitalists of PeaceHealth.

Additionally, we are proud to stand together with the service, lab and tech workers of SEIU 1199NW at PeachHealth who will be on strike alongside us. We support them in their fight for a fair contract.

  • We are striking due to Unfair Labor Practices committed by PeaceHealth, as defined by the National Labor Relations Acts (NLRA).

The Advanced Practice Clinicians union is fighting for quality patient care and retention of clinicians. PeaceHealth has harmed these goals by making changes to working conditions unilaterally, which is illegal under the NLRA.

The Hospitalists are striking so that PeaceHealth recognizes their union. Despite having their union election certified in June 2024, PeaceHealth has denied them union rights and refuse to engage in bargaining, as required by the NLRA.

Unfortunately, PeaceHealth is not taking these problems seriously and has shown that they intend to continue unless confronted. Our strike is that necessary confrontation, aimed to push PeaceHealth management out of denial and delay into working together to address what needs fixing.

  • Supporters of all walks are welcome to join our picket line! Bring family, friends, pets to support your doctors and clinicians who are trying to create a better PeaceHealth for everyone.

If you have the opportunity to interact with anyone who works at PeaceHealth before or after the strike, mention your support for the workers and their union.

  • All that’s needed is to show up! If you would like to bring a sign, you are welcome and encouraged, but more than enough signs will be available if you’d like one. Wear practical clothing and shoes for the weather, and be ready to shout, chant and make your presence known.

  • We don’t want to disrupt necessary medical service for anyone. PeaceHealth will have staff working throughout the strike. If necessary to ensure safety, service may be moved to a different time or location, but healthcare will still be available to those who need it.
